Aah the memories....

Some of you may remember a little something we used to serve called
Breakfast Bake
A delightful savory cousin of bread pudding made with
green onions,
peppers,
tomato,
cheese,
bacon,
garlic
&
herbs
served with sour cream and salsa.
It's a great way to break your fast!
We are debuting it at the Wolfville Farmer's Market this Saturday.
Those of you who remember it from before will be delighted to know we will have it in Sackville on Sunday too.

My Goodness,

Things have been kinda crazy for the last few months and I'm just getting used to the idea that things are settling a bit.
Having said that, I now await the chaos as the fecal matter impacts the oscillating wind generator.

AnYwHo...

We are trying a few new things this weekend for the Sackville Market

Blueberry Scones
Coffee Cake Muffins

as well as bringing back an old fave :

Moon Pies!

Of course we will have

In case you were wondering...

Some of you have been wondering what sort of custom orders i do. Here is an example of a custom cake.

Started with white cake and a buttercream crumbcoat
chillin' in my fridge

Next, more buttercream! Like there can ever be enough.

Next, Smoothing on the rolled fondant

Adding fondant features make the character come alive.

Don't forget the ever important corperate sponsorship.
Money is money.

A bit of piping gel for added toonishness
and some edible sparkles to make that #95 shine!

And there you have it!
#95 Lightning McQueen
from Disney Pixar's CARS

That my friends, is a fun way to play with your food.

Crazy Holiday Season Winding Down...

Ok, i know i've been really lax in updating the blog over the holidays. I'm sorry.

We're going to the Sackville market this Sunday and hope to see you there! We'll have the usual stuff this week; chili, sandwiches, bread pudding, and a few types of cookies. We're keeping it minimal for now as we don't know what sort of demand there will be in the new year.

  In other news.
  • My computer has been barfy lately and has greatly diminished the joy i get from updating this blog. So i'll keep it short for now and hope for a new CPU in my future.
  • I'm taking belly dancing classes!Oriana from Sister Lotus has been kind enough to trade belly for belly and classes start on the 11th of January! Go check out her site: www.sisterlotus.com
  • I am currently in talks with the Wolfville Farmer's Market!I'm looking to start a bi-weekly trial to see what sort of response get from the locals. More news to follow.

Home again , home again jiggity jig!

Ok.
So it's been a while since my last post. I'm sorry. I got caught in the storm last week and didn't make it home in time to post.
But hey, we had a good week at the market on Sunday and I was thus able to have some home heating oil delivered. YAY for not freezing!

I am currently working on MY holiday gift baking as well as preping for the Market. I will try to figure out this digital camera and take some photos as I go. I have a bunch of interesting requests from friends and family this year, including a flourless chocolate torte, chocolate pudding pie with merangue, hazlenut yule log and an assortment of our old favorites like super chocolate cookies, butterscotch cookies, good ol' chocolate chip cookies in somewhat smaller sizes than you usually see at Market.

With this much chocolate being thrown around, this Christmas isn't going to be cheap!

I'm also testing out a new soft and fluffy dinner roll recipe this week. Yes Pam, cotton candy rolls.

I'll try to keep everyone posted as things come out of the oven.

p.s. I love my new rubber gloves.

Here we have a lovely specimen of the family "Quickius Breadius" and the genus of "Biscuitidae". This particular species is often found living in close co-operation with species from the kingdom "Preservitae" , mostly "Jamicus Strawberriculum". While they are prevalent among many climates, this particular species must have the presence of buttermilk for their reproduction. Hence the species classification of "Butterium Milkiatus"

I am happy to report that we here at Red's Breads have managed to procure a small collection of these delightful specimens and will be showing them at the Sunday market for public enjoyment and education.

We are also working diligently to bring you a rare glimpse into the lives of wild blueberry tarts in their natural habitat. More photos to follow.

Greetings and Salutations Everyone,

First of all, I would like to apologize for the lack of updates this past week. Things have been going a little crazy with this gingerbread house I'm building for the Annapolis Valley Habitat for Humanity display and auction. I thought we would have to deliver the display today and I stayed up all night pulling it together. Some of you may realize that staying up all night is usually my forte, but it has wrought havoc with my plans of switching over to a "normal" daytime routine. In short, I feel icky.

Enough of excuses! On to the menu!

We will be serving Chili and Grilled Italian Sandwiches as usual ( Portabella mushroom and Italian Trio ). We even managed to remembered to buy rolls for with the chili this week. Yay!

Bread Pudding with Butterscotch Sauce will be making it's usual appearance, along with Carrot Carrycakes.
AAAAaaaaand... we have a lovely batch of shortbread in cute little cutouts that has a wonderful buttery, sandy texture.

As far as giant cookies go, we have;
  • Milk Chocolate Macadamia Nut
  • Milk Chocolate Caramel
  • Molasses Spice
  • Milk Chocolate Toffee Chip
  • Black & White with Pecans
  • Snickerdoodles
  • Shortbread
  • Butterscotch
  • Gingerbread
  • Yo-Yo's
Ooh, I believe that's the timer for the Bittersweet Chocolate Brownies, gotta run...

Saturday, November 21, 2009

Ok everybody,

We've got the usual: chili, sandwiches, cookies, carrot carrycakes, regular bread pudding with butterscotch sauce and a selection of our usual cookies. We are also offering sampler packs of smaller cookies that are perfect for parties, hostess gifts, and meetings. We are doing this on a trial basis so please let us know what you think of out new mini sizes.

Sorry this post is so late but we've been experiencing technical difficulties.

Hope to see you all at the market!

busy Busy BUSY!

When you're a chocoholic like me, even when life gets rocky (road) you can still find a reason to smile.

Believe it or not, this was a serendipitous cookie face. I didn't even know he was there until I walked back into the room after setting up the market. This happened a few months ago, but it happened when I really needed someone to smile at me. Funny how life's like that.

Many thanks to all of you for visiting and double that for leaving your comments, it's what keeps us going.

Congrats to Susan and Abbie for leaving the very firstest comment ever. Come see us at the market to claim your prize!

This weekend I am helping my Dad set up his booth at the NSDCC Christmas Craft Market at Pier 21. Drop by and visit him at booth number 311 on the corner: Donald Bell Goldsmith. I am still going to try to get everything ready for the market on Sunday, keep yer fingers crossed.
